Hello to all our registered users,

Here’s an update on various planning issues in the County at present.

Abbey Quarter / Smithwick's Brewery Site
A draft masterplan for the Smithwick's site and Bateman Quay was
presented to Kilkenny Borough Council at a public meeting in City Hall on
the 5th of November 2013. The draft masterplan was then placed on public
display for a 6 week period, during which time the Council received 38
submissions from members of the public and statutory authorities. As a
direct result of this consultation exercise, the Council is carrying out
further work and assessment in relation to archaeology and impact on the
environment, in particular the River Nore. This is now underway. When
complete, this work will further influence the proposed masterplan and may
result in material changes to proposed layouts, uses, etc. A revised
masterplan will be placed on public display later this year, or early next,
and a further round of public consultation will take place with the public
and statutory authorities at that time. The revised masterplan will also
go before the County Council for their consideration.

A model of the CAS bridge is currently available for viewing in the former
Arts Office, no. 72 John Street. If you want to get a closer look at the
model, the office will be open from Tuesday 14th October to Friday 17th
October 2014 from 2.30pm to 4.00pm.

Local Area Plans
It is proposed to amend the Callan Local Area Plan 2009-2020 by extending
the development boundary of the town to include an additional 8 acres of
land located at Westcourt (west of the Callan by-pass) to facilitate a
proposed development by Camphill Community. The amendment will be ready
for public display later this year and will be published on this website.
Members of the public will be able to make submissions in relation to the
amendment by e-mail, on the ourplan website or by post. Further details
will be published on the ourplan site at that time.

The review of the Ferrybank-Belview and Castlecomer Local Area Plans
2009-2020 will commence later this year. Details will be published on the
ourplan site at the relevant times.

Forecast
The Forecast Project is ongoing at the moment. This is a LEADER
initiative, part funded by the County Council. It is a creative
participative project which will explore people's concerns and ideas
for the physical, social and economic diversity of Kilkenny's rural
towns. The project will focus on Callan, Castlecomer, Thomastown,
Graiguenamanagh and Mooncoin: towns chosen by Kilkenny leader Partnership
(KLP). The central outcome of this project will be a report detailing the
issues in each town and lessons learned. The report will be used by the
Planning Department of Kilkenny County Council as an informative tool in
the review of our plans. For more information, please go to
